I am Swimming for Girls’ Education

My name is Su Cimren, I’m 9 years old, and I swim for the Bellevue Club Swim Team. I swim to raise money so that every girl in the world can have access to education. if you donate to the Malala Fund it would mean a lot to me and the girls who cannot learn.

Thank you for Helping me raise $670, and Here is a Recap on how I did on my Latest meet

You helped me raise $670 even though my objective was $500. I thank all of you who donated some money to the Malala Fund. Even if it was a little bit, I am sure the girls who cannot go to school will appreciate it. Now here is a bit of information about how I did in the Twelve and Under Long Course Championships.

Let me start from the times I dropped: Friday and Saturday

  • 200 IM — I swam a 3:24.27, this is a best time, I dropped 3 seconds from my old one.
  • 100 Backstroke — I swam a 1:35.96, this also a best time, I dropped about like two seconds.
  • 200 Freestyle — Lastly I swam a 3:05.95, faster by six seconds.

Thursday was the day that I did not do that well

  • 50 Backstroke — was a 45.48, about a second slower than my best time.
  • 100 Freestyle — I swam a 1:27.85, which is half a second slower.

Since I made a commitment that I would tell you everything about what happened at the meet. After my two races when I went to talk to my coach, he said that I just added on two races, and that it was not the end of the world. This made me feel better.

Now here are the good things. On Friday, in the 200 IM (individual medley) I made a 14 & under winter cut, this means that by swimming more, together we can raise more money.

My new Goal Until the -14 Championship

I thank you again for helping me donate $670 to the Malala Fund, and help saving lives of millions of girls. My next goal until the 14 & under championship is to raise $1,000. It would be a pleasure if you were one of those people.

122 million girls are depending on you to help them get an education. So this is your chance if you want to help the world

Right now you’re probably thinking about what score you got on a math test. But did you know some kids don’t even know simple addition — and even more often, girls don’t have access to education at all? In fact, 122 million girls do not go to school. So instead of worrying about a test, we can try to help them.

I am Su Cimren, and I read a book called “I Am Malala.” It’s about a girl trying to convince governments that everyone should be treated fairly. Malala started the Malala Fund, where people donate money that goes to kids who don’t have an education. It made me excited to help children go to school.

When Malala was ten, the Taliban took over her town and shut down schools for girls. She spoke out. At 15, they shot her on her way home from school — but she survived, and today she helps girls all over the world get an education.

Swimming for a cause

I’m a 9-year-old swimmer with Bellevue Club Swim Team (BCST). At the Pacific Northwest 12 & Under Championships in July I swam five races in three days and set three personal bests. My new season starts in September, and I’m dedicating those races too. Pledge with my swims: a few dollars for every second I drop, a bonus if I make my 100 Back “A” cut, or simply give what you can. 💙

What you can do

  • Donate to the Malala Fund.
  • Tell everyone you know and encourage them to give.
  • Share the story — no matter how small your action, you’ll help these girls.

100% goes to the Malala Fund — every gift helps a girl go to school.
